The General Council formally declared organizing of South Asia Social Forum in November 18-22, 2011 in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh before the press through a press conference held in CIRDAP auditorium on August 28, 2011. The decision was taken earlier in the South Asia Preparatory Council meeting of SASF held in January 2011. The General Council of SASF-Bangladesh and Co-host of the event Dhaka University formally met the press to announce the detailed program outline seeking cooperation from each and every quarter of society to raise voices against imperial domination and neo-liberal hegemony over the marginalized communities throughout the globe in general and South Asia in particular.
The general theme of the SASF- Bangladesh has been declared as “Democracy for Social Transformation in South Asia: Participation, Equity, Justice and Peace”. The press statement was read by the Honorable Vice- Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof. AAMS Arefin Siddique while the Coordinator of the SASF-Bangladesh Mr. Muhammad Hilaluddin moderated the conference. Among others, PKSF chairman Dr. Quazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Justice (Retired) Golam Rabbani, cultural activist Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu, Ain O Shalish Kendro chair Hamida Hossain, CAMPE chair Rasheda K. Choudhury, Nijera Kori chair Khushi Kabir, ActionAid Bangladesh Country Director Farah Kabir, Oxfam Policy Manager Ziaul Huq Mukta made deliberations to the press.
